Color is Important
Cool colors like blue, green, gray and even white work well in the bedroom. Stay away from warm colors like oranges and reds. Pastels of any color are best, but you can incorporate bright or bold colors for accents in the room like trim or artwork. Your bedroom will be more serene if you choose soothing colors for the walls.
Make it clutter free
A designer can help you come up with ingenious ways to disguise your mess, but you have to do your part, too. Put things away each night before bed, and keep work clutter out of the bedroom for your most restful sleep.
Focus on the Bed
Pretty obvious: the place you’re going to lay your head has to be comfortable. Invest in a new mattress or a more affordable mattress topper to make the bed super comfy. Add in quality sheets, a warm comforter, and multiple pillows of different sizes and firmness and you’ve got yourself a regular safe haven! You’ll look forward to cozying up in a bed like that every night.
Any room is more Zen with a houseplant or two. In the bedroom, plants can help purify the air and actually help you sleep better. Some of the best indoors plants are aloe vera and spider plants for their purifying properties and gardenia for its healing properties. You can water these plants about once a week, and they will get plenty of light from windows that get direct or indirect sunlight.
Keep the lighting soft
There are multiple ways to create dim light in your bedroom. Try to strike a balance between too much light, which is overstimulating, and too little, which can strain your eyes. Devices you can use include dimmers, lamps, candles and overhead fixtures that diffuse light from their bulbs.
As you may have guessed from our list above, relaxation is about treating all the senses: beautiful colors to look at, soothing textures, and scented candles will all work together to create a relaxing environment for you to sleep. There are other measures you can take, such as putting the electronics down 30-60 minutes before sleep and adding blackout curtains if light from outside keeps you awake.
