For this well-traveled Leawood family, home is where everyone comes together – and their basement simply wasn’t living up to that vision. While it was technically finished, the layout and functionality fell short of their love for entertaining. The solution? A full transformation into a lively, layered space built for connection, comfort, and celebration.

At the heart of the redesign is a statement-making bar, now perfectly positioned at the back of the basement to face the lounge and TV area. This allows guests to gather, grab a drink, and stay connected to the action. Outfitted with a farmhouse sink, paneled wine and full refrigeration, and a striking Cambria island with bold brass veining, this space is both beautiful and functional.

To accommodate frequent guests, a serene new suite was added, along with a full bathroom overhaul, adding a walk-in shower. Wrapped in deep green wainscoting and gold-accented wallpaper, the bathroom feels luxe and moody – like a boutique hotel with a twist.

This basement was designed with every member of the family in mind. The kids have a dedicated game zone with their own TVs, shuffleboard, and plenty of space to play. A built-in booth offers a cozy spot for game nights and casual meals, while the fireplace area – once outdated and closed off – was reimagined. The gas unit was replaced with a sleek electric version, flanked by floating shelves and streamlined cabinetry to create a clean, contemporary focal point.

Throughout the space, vibrant wallpaper, thoughtful lighting, and unexpected details – like a custom backsplash that peeks out behind the barware – add layers of personality and charm. It’s a space that invites you in and encourages you to stay awhile.
